Introduction

You undoubtedly already know that Revit is a popular BIM software used by architects, structural engineers, designers, and contractors. Create a 3D model of a building, mark it with 2D drafting elements, and access its database.

Did you know there are thousands of Revit interfaces and plugins? These plugins can assist in expediting procedures, save time and resources, and generally customise the Revit experience to individual needs.

Here are some of our favourite Revit software integrations. ProtoTech encourages the use of a customised software stack to enhance productivity, and these 7 plugins can help:

Best Revit Plugins for Architects

1. Color Splasher

Color Splasher is a Revit plugin that helps users graphically see and verify information in a model.

This tool allows users to see faults or missing information by filtering, selecting, and colouring components based on parameter values. The user selects a category, a parameter, and finally colours for each parameter value; Color Splasher does the rest.

Revit’s essential tools can create a colour scheme, but the process is complex and time-consuming. Color Splasher simplifies and streamlines this process. If you don’t have Color Splasher, you can use the Filters tool to find a group of components and add it to the Visibility/Graphics menu.

2. Ideate BIMLink

Ideate Software’s BIMLink Revit interface. BIMLink allows Revit users to export data to Excel and vice versa (e.g., send precise BIM data back from Excel into their 3D model).

BIMLink makes use of Excel’s multi-line data display feature. Overall, the plugin aims to eliminate human errors, costly on-site delays, and rework caused by errors by enhancing Revit data organisation and removing “double handling” of data.

However, BIMLink intends to foster collaboration between Revit and non-Revit users by allowing team members to access data without launching Revit.

3. Dynamo

Dynamo is an open-source software platform for BIM. It lets users create “logic routines” to streamline procedures and sort design possibilities.

Dynamo is a visual programming tool for non-programmers and programmers alike. Visually script behaviour defines custom logic and script in many textual programming languages.

Autodesk just announced Dynamo release model modifications. This is explained in their FAQ: “We’re always improving Dynamo capabilities and functionality in products like Autodesk Revit [and other programmes].” On the other hand, we’ve decided to retire Autodesk Dynamo Studio is a separate product and remove it from the Autodesk AEC Collection on January 31, 2022.”

4. Xinaps Spatial Requirements Assistant

Spatial Requirements Assistant for Revit is designed for architects, drafters, and other design team members. It automates model inspection without leaving Revit.

Spatial Requirements Assistant operates in the background with Revit project units. The integration includes in-app notifications to keep users informed.

The Spatial Requirements Assistant App helps users perform various model checking tasks, including:

  • Define floor area types and customise them
  • Monitor toilets, parking, and other facilities based on regulatory and usage requirements
  • Scan the BIM model and report compliance of the current design iteration against all the functional requirements
  • Export data in Word and Excel formats, as well as import data from Excel files

5. 3D Revit Rendering by Enscape

Enscape is a popular real-time visualisation engine for Revit and other BIM tools.

The software converts Revit models into 3D tours. Enscape offers a comprehensive component library, adjustable ambient settings, 360 panoramic possibilities, and other tools to improve 3D presentations for AEC teams.

Enscape’s real-time rendering lets the design team effortlessly receive and analyse client feedback. The software even has a VR mode.

6. ProtoTech’s Revit Add-In

Distributing a 3D model is a breeze! If you’d like to share your 3D creation, you can export it in one of several formats. The Model Material and colour export allowed a variety of views. CAD software is not required to view your design in 3D form. Keep the original data structure in place. You are making CAD models to increase performance.

Revit files can be easily converted to 3D PDF, OBJ, JSON, Webgl, GLTF, and other formats.

7. Prospect by IrisVR Plugin for Revit

Prospect by IrisVR is a virtual reality platform designed for engineers and builders. Prospect works with Revit to assess designs, find clashes, and coordinate work.

The platform converts Revit files to VR, incorporating BIM data and optimising geometry. Prospect can detect costly coordination errors and avoid rework orders before any building construction has even begun.
